About Ithaca DSA

At the Ithaca chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, we believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically to meet public needs - not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives.

We are dedicated first of all to democracy, and to bringing democracy into the economic sphere. We are not a political party that runs candidates. Rather, we are a political organization that engages in many activities as needed: electoral politics, labor organizing, demonstration, and education.

You can find more information on our national website.

Join DSA!

You don’t have to be an official dues paying member to participate in local chapter work and in fact we welcome such participation from comrades and fellow travelers. However, this also means you technically would not have voting rights during meetings and chapter decisions.

If you’d like to have those voting rights in meetings and contribute to the organization financially, you can sign-up through the national website which is where all membership matters are processed. As a matter of principle, anyone can still become a member even if they’re unable to pay the lowest dues. If this is the case, send us an email.
